Food 2 Families
Food Program Concept
This project was for creating a website that responsive website that allows you to donate or receive food within your community.
My Role: Research / Wireframes / Design
Tools: Adobe XD
The Problem
Many families need help in feeding their family and themselves. Some are shy or embarrassed and don’t know where to get help.
The Goal
I wanted to make a quick and easy way for families to receive food and do it from the privacy of their home.
My Process
I began this project by gathering as much information from similar donation sites as well as local food pantry sites. Through informal surveys I gathered data from a small group of users who were donation based as well as food seeking at some point in their lives.
DISCOVERY
User Research Notes
Gathering user research about this particular concept required me to hone in on my personal experience with food insecurity which ultimately helped immensely with building empathy for the user. I also had to keep the donation based user in mind throughout.
Competitor Research
For this step, I visited and interacted with multiple sites based on community outreach, food pantries, and donation. I also included sites that were small and local as well as far-reaching sites to get a better grasp of things.
DEFINE
Knowing that there were 2 very distinct types of users for this project, I felt creating 2 very different personas would be very helpful in guiding this project in the right direction.
PERSONA - NEED BASED
Wendy is a single mother who needs an easy way to receive help with food because she needs to feed her family.
PERSONA - DONATION BASED
John is a single father who needs to be able to donate food easily because he wants to help his community.
Key Takeaways
Easy and simple to use.
Mobile friendly.
Trustworthy and transparent.
DEVELOP
Based off research at this point I felt confident enough to start my first iteration and see what kind of reaction it would get.
TEST & IDEATE
With the use of a wireframe prototype I was able to conduct an informal usability study using both mobile and desktop versions of the site. The users included both need based and donation based persona types.
What Users Wanted
Users felt that Donations needed to be more prominent.
Users were bypassing Donate Food option and/or missing it altogether.
Users wanted to be able to easily select a recommended donation amount.
Users were unclear about instructions.
Users felt there needed to be a drop-off time selector.
